  • 3.2.3.2. Influence of slag removal technology on harmful emissions from power boilers

  • 3.2.3.3. Segregation, classification and dewatering of slag and bottom ash

     The purpose of dewatering and classification of slag from hard coal combustion is the elimination of slag hydro-transport to disposal lagoons thus reducing  water consumption as well as costs of hydro-transport and storage of water-slag or water-ash-slag suspension  and of slag aggregates’ production. The developed technology is based on application of centrifugal sieves, enabling not only slag dewatering but also its classification and removal of remaining bottom ash and cenospheres.

     Magaldi Power S.p.A. has developed and installed the MAC-Magaldi Ash Cooler® system for dry extraction, cooling and handling of bottom ash from pulverized coal-fired boilers.

    The MAR-Magaldi Ash Recycling system is an improvement of the MAC technology; it is a process to recycle dry bottom ash into the combustion chamber in order to turn it into fly ash.

  • 3.2.3.5. The Application of Air-cooled Dry Bottom Ash Handling Technology at Coal Fired Power Plant

     The environment protection requirements are more and more stringent in power plants of China, in order to reduce the polluting load from the power plant effluent, air-cooled dry bottom ash handling system, one of innovative and leading technology, was adopting for coal fired power plant. There is no any water using during the bottom ash processing. A series of operational and environmental problems was eliminated by the air-cooled dry bottom ash handling system. The dry solution of bottom ash avoids the problems and costs associated with waste water in ash handling, improving the performance and the efficiency of the boiler. It is an important contribution to the achievement of “zero waste water discharge” commitment of many utilities, as well as a drastic cost reduction comparing traditional wet system for bottom ash handling process in coal fired power plants.
