    By position fluidized bed (FB) furnaces are between the fuel-bed-firing furnaces and pulverized combustion furnaces. Together with the fuel-bed-firing furnaces they, first of all, can burn crushed coal and have a lattice, through which air is supplied to the bed. At increase in the air velocity, blown through the bed, the moment comes when the aerodynamic force, acting each particle of fuel, overcomes friction forces between the particles. A further growth of air flow leads to fluidization of particles of the fuel, it seems as if the bed is boiling (therefore, it is called “fluidized bed”), its height and pore volume increase.

  • 1.5.1.2. Combustion of solid fuel in circulating fluidized bed boilers

    Recently foreign power supply companies prefer boilers with the circulating fluidized bed (CFB).

    FB and CFB technologies have the same operational principle. Air is blown into the furnace, where a bed, formed by ash, fuel and limestone, fluidized by the air, is generated.

  • 1.5.1.3. Combustion of solid fuel in fluidized bed boilers under pressure

    Recently research efforts relating to fluidized bed furnaces under pressure (FBP) has grown up. The basic advantage of such furnaces is in a possibility of the combined cycle realization, when steam, generated in the boiler, is utilized in the steam turbine, and combustion products with the increased pressure are used in the gas turbine. Such a scheme increases the thermodynamic efficiency of the cycle and also allows at a greater extent reducing the overall dimensions of the furnace units and lowering pollutant emissions into atmosphere.
