All over the world, the decision of environmental problems causes significant difficulties, especially in case of chronic problem, generated by past economic activities. ABOUT THE ROLE AND PLACE OF SCIENCE IN SOLUTION OF COAL ASH HANDLING PROBLEM

In connection with increase in the man-made impact on environment, a problem of coal ash handling being both regional and global, becomes more and more actual. At many Thermal Power Plants (TPPs) of Russia ash disposal sites are close to their design filling that forces power engineers to search for the new ways of dealing with these matters. Without involving the profile scientific organizations, engaged in solution of the coal ash handling problem, a personnel from TPPs and power companies won't cope with this.

Combustion of any fuel results in greenhouse gas (GHG) emissions contributing in the climate change. Carbon dioxides (CO2) make more than 99% of all GHG.

In order to limit the man-made impact on climatic system, in 1992 UN accepted the Convention on Climate Change (ССС), and in 1997  - the Kyoto Protocol to CCC, which came into force in the international scene in 2005. Russia is a member-state of CCC and Kyoto Protocol.

Ecological safety of ash-and-slag materials application in agriculture

The results of field studies related to wheat growing with the use of ash-and-slag fertilizes are given. Concentration of some heave metals in wheat, depending on amount of ash-and-slag fertilizes, was observed. Results of mathematical processing of research results are discussed.

Present environmental problems connected with development of our civilization include a variety of aspects of all human activities, especially the industrial production. Official and unofficial sources give a lot of information on the environmental situation in the cities and country as a whole.

Technological Aspects of Greenhouse Gases Emission Reductions

In the paper information on a newly accepted targets to reduce greenhouse gas (GHG) emissions on a national level by 2020 and requirements for GHG emissions regulation is presented. Results of analysis of additional measures in frames of the national policy to be planned are introduced. Rational measures to limit GHG emissions in the energy sector for the coming 10 years are pointed out, a possibility of CCS technologies implementation in the Russian energy sector is evaluated.

Problems of personnel training for power utilities and ways of their solution

In the Russian Federation according to the Law “On higher and postgraduate professional education” in 2015 in the majority of universities a transfer to the two-level system of higher professional education will be completed by the example of the European “Bologna” one with the Bachelor’s and Master’s degrees, but no engineers will be graduated.
